University to Resume Operations at Noon, 10/30

Bucknell University will resume normal operations today, Tuesday, Oct. 30 at noon. Classes will begin at 1pm. Events and meetings may take place as scheduled. Parking restrictions will resume 6am Wednesday morning. When the university is open, the staff handbook provides staff members with certain options according to their individual circumstances.Staff members who believe that their safety may be threatened, are not required to remain or report to work. Hours missed on such occasions may be charged against compensatory time, the floating holiday, vacation time, or made up during the pay period, as stated in the Staff Handbook (p. 69). […]

University to resume normal operations at noon today

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff, This morning our Emergency Management Team met to discuss the conditions on campus, the latest reports from weather and government agencies, and the continuing effects on our area of Hurricane Sandy and the post-tropical cyclone it became with landfall. As you know, we decided to cancel classes and close offices from 2 p.m. yesterday until 12 noon today out of caution for the well-being of our students and personnel. Bucknell Closing/Information

In light of the decision of the Emergency Management Team announced this morning by President Bravman, please take note of the following critical pieces of information: – The ELC  and the University Switchboard will remain open Monday night for any emergencies, including for off-campus students who may have to vacate their housing. Please sign in at the Switchboard on the second floor of the ELC upon arrival. – For those students who are concerned about families in affected areas, Residential Education staff are available to assist. Campus Closing — Hurricane Sandy Update

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff, I write to apprise you of the decisions of our University Emergency Management Team at a morning meeting to discuss the University’s response to the dangers arising in this area from Hurricane Sandy. As you know, this storm is massive in scale, and is threatening the East Coast with flooding and high winds. Dear Students, Faculty and Staff, With Hurricane Sandy expected to bring heavy rains to the area, especially tomorrow (Monday), along with high winds reaching nearly 70 miles per hour, we have mobilized the University’s emergency management team. We are monitoring the storm closely, are assuring the preparedness of all campus systems, and will be sending you Campus Alerts about precautions you should take to keep yourself safe as the storm begins to impact this area. Campus Weather Advisory

The University continues to monitor Hurricane Sandy as it is travels north.   There is a potential weather impact statewide beginning possibly Monday.    The National Weather Service currently indicates the possibility of heavy rain with a chance of flooding and strong winds for the greater Lewisburg area, with a potential for creek flooding and drain blockage.   Please watch for more specific information and instructions sent via the campus alert and/or text messages, if necessary.
